I’m not enough of an expert to write about this but my Ugandan friend was recently telling me about how the written form of his native language was first created by Italian missionaries to Uganda so the spelling and pronunciation pattern resembles Italian. Would love to know if other languages have a similar story.

Native language: English
Proficient in: French
Learning: Portuguese (advanced beginner), Spanish (beginner), biblical Hebrew (beginner)
On hold: Italian, German
Want to learn: Romanian, Tamil (so difficult!)
Gave up on: Ancient Greek
